Barbara J. Marshall
Barbara J. Marshall, CPDM has been in the workers’ compensation and disability management industry for more than 35 years and is a Certified Professional in Disability Management (CPDM). She has been a frequent speaker on disability management at both the state and national levels. Currently, she is an instructor of the CPDM curriculum for the Insurance Education Association. .
Mission – Barbara understands the challenges facing today’s insurance professionals and is pleased to share her wealth of knowledge and experience with her students.
She is retired from FirstEnergy Corp., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned electric systems in the nation with approximately 17,000 employees in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. There she was responsible for managing the company’s workers’ compensation, short and long-term disability, federal and state leaves, return to work and absence management programs, medical case management and health services.
Barbara was actively involved in workers’ compensation self-insurance as a member of the board of the New Jersey Self-Insurers Association (NJSIA) and Vice President of the Ohio Self-Insurers Association (OSIA). She served as the program chair for the OSIA annual conference, Ohio’s premier self-insured workers’ compensation conference, for 12 years. In 2014, OSIA honored Barbara with the Patrick A. O’Neill Memorial award for her support to the organization. Barbara was a governor’s appointee for the employer community to the Labor-Management-Government Advisory Council for Ohio BWC Rehabilitation for 15 years and has worked closely with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation on issues pertaining to self-insurance and rehabilitation. She was instrumental in organizing the Ohio Chapter of the Disability Management Employers Coalition (DMEC), and is past president of the chapter. She received the DMEC Chester Miller Leadership Award in 2003 and served on the organization’s national Employer Advisory Council. A native of Ohio, she now resides in Greenville, South Carolina.
Education: She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from The University of Akron.
